Automatic control unit MC-500R is a device that automatically controls drying process in small
capacity conventional kilns mounted by "NIGOS - elektronik". Also, it can be used in conventional dryers as a cheaper substitution for more powerful MC-100.
MC-500R is based on MC-411R automatic control unit (which is intended for drying process
control in dehumidifying kilns) with adequate modifications made in order to satisfy demands of drying in conventional kilns. Above
all, it concerns introduction of PI type of control instead of ON/OFF type of control used at MC-411R. Also, this device has
additional switches that provide manual control over part of the equipment. Additional advantage of this device is its low price,
so it is mainly intended for use in low-cost mini kilns (NKS).
Optimal drying conditions are achieved through air temperature/humidity control. MC-500R controls the drying process
automatically, semi-automatically or manually according to a device setup and data concerning air temperature, humidity and wood
moisture content obtained from probes (1 measuring point for air temperature and humidity measurement and 4 points for wood
moisture content measurement).
When in automatic control mode, MC - 500R follows the chosen drying regime and achieves optimal drying conditions in the
kiln with automatic control of installed equipment (flow fans, flaps,
sprinklers, etc.) through its relay outputs. There are 12 available drying regimes given to the
user to chose from. In semiautomatic control mode, user can set desired setpoints for air temperature and humidity based on the
personal experience, and the automatic control unit only maintain those values inside the kiln at the desired point.
Manual control mode is a specific function of this device. In that mode, switches and buttons on the right side of device are
used. They provide user the ability to choose manual control mode for control of valves, flaps and sprinklers. In this mode, user
can control equipment in the kiln manually (i.e., user can manually open or close the servo heating valve and the flaps, and turn
on/off humidifying valve). In this mode, automatic control unit MC - 500R only displays the measured values for air
temperature and humidity and wood moisture content, but its relay outputs are override by the appropriate switch, so MC-500R
can not control the equipment in the kiln.
After a power failure has occurred, drying is automatically continued starting from the measured wood moisture content upon
power supply reconnection.
Technical data of a MC - 500R automatic control unit are given in the following tables.
